How do members of AA stay sober?

We admit, deep down, that we are powerless over alcohol, and that alone we cannot stay sober. We do certain things; go to meetings, work the 12 Steps, keep in contact with one another, and stay away from the first drink, one day at a time. Together we can do what we cannot do alone.
